HEROtv: Riding-On the TV5 Express.

The only thing that I can say is, ABS-CBN and HEROtv definitely made a big mistake. It should have been theirs, but they have listened to the “voices”, and now the glory goes to TV5. And Yes, I’m talking about Code Geass.
If you are a fan of HEROtv facebook, you might have seen this status:
It was damn obvious that it is Code Geass, since the crappy airplane anime (shown on ANIMAX before) is Area 88. But if you ask me, they are THREE YEARS TOO LATE. Since I’m not very active on HEROtv Forums from 2007 – 2009, I do not really know the full details of it, but I have heard stories from my colleagues from ZEN Otaku Honbu about the controversial survey that changed HEROtv’s programming and made it the way it was now. A big eyesore. I think Anime Kabayan and -Kira-Yamato- could explain it a little further.
But from what I have heard, Because of the Results of the Survey & what the “voices” (also known as the Focus Group Discussions of ABS-CBN Management), they have initially decided that instead of acquiring Code Geass, they will acquire the American oldies-cartoon Biker Mice from Mars instead.
And I guess that’s the reason why TV5 AniMEGA have taken advantage of this and acquired Code Geass, which has aired on Terrestrial TV in 2008. And you know what? Despite the problems with the name (TV5 voice-overs have made some mistakes on pronouncing Code Geass, like “Code Diyes”, “Code Gee-Ass”, and “Code Jiss”, when in fact it was “Code Gii-Ass”), it became very very popular. It had become one of those anime programmes programmes everyone want a repeat run, right after Special A, and Lelouch and CC became one of those characters that cosplayers like to cosplay (just like Bleach characters before the GMA-7 airing… hahaha!)
Now, the question to HEROtv is… WHY ONLY NOW? BAKIT NGAYON LANG? It should have been not just HEROtv but also ABS-CBN Channel 02′s crowing glory, joining the ranks of Naruto, Eyeshield 21, The Law of Ueki, and Soul Eater, and they just waited for TV5 AniMEGA to change their minds?! What happened to “The Most Wanted Anime Channel is the Philippines?!”
On what will the dubbing sounds like or so… I’ll wait and see. But I expect that it will be much much different.
